SAM’S HOUSE

At Armada Orient, we get some interesting projects. One such job was to manufacture house components, furnishings and decorations for a new house in Strathalbyn, a pretty little rural village an hour outside Adelaide in South Australia.

Our friend Sam had a good idea of what he wanted. A tradesman (tiler) by profession, he was well acquainted with most aspects of the building trade. And we had previously done a very similar contract for his older sister Sarina, who was well pleased with the results.

Sam drew up drawings for the doors and windows, cupboards, built-ins, kitchen and all the furniture. His pictures and data were simple but easy to follow. And he visited us here in Indonesia to check on production, source new items and select decor pieces. All the doors and windows, furniture, lighting, tiles and outdoor paving and a lot of the decor was made here in Indonesia, and sent over a period of 18 months in 3 full containers. The result is this stunning house, reflecting Sam and his wife Sammy’s modern taste with a slight Asian influence.

The garage door is a double 3 leaf folding door in teak. The teak front door and windows came fully fitted in their teak frames complete with hinges, locks, glass etc, so the carpenters had an easy time installing straight onto the stud walls with a nail gun. No messing chiselling away to fit hinges and locks at $125 an hour.
